I purchased the Apple Time Capsule on August 26th, 2011, at Best Buy for $315.70, and it is not performing at all to my expectations. Every time I look at the status bar, it has some kind of error, and then it says it can not complete the backup. I purchased the Apple Time Capsule because it had a lot of hard drive space, and it was a wireless router with wireless backup options; this is not the case. Every time it tries to backup using the wireless option, it gives me an error, so I have to get a 25-foot-long Ethernet cable to plug into my iMac computer, which is in my living room, to make my backups to my Apple Time Capsule which is in my office, now this is not only a huge inconvenience, but after I plug in my iMac to the Time Capsule using this 25-foot long ethernet cable, I end up getting an error message that says ” TIME MACHINE COMPLETED A VERIFICATION OF YOUR BACKUPS. TO IMPROVE RELIABILITY, TIME MACHINE MUST CREATE A NEW BACKUP FOR YOU. Click Start New Backup to create a new backup. This will remove your existing backup history. Click Back Up Later to be reminded tomorrow. Time Machine won’t perform backups during this time.” Now correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t this defeat the purpose of the Apple Time Machine? If I am completely wiping out the backup to replace it with a new backup, then how is this giving me the option to restore a file that I had a few days or a week ago if I decided I needed that file? I am very disappointed in Apple, and though I am a huge fan of Apple products, I would have to say that this really needs to get a fix fast. I would not recommend buying the Apple Time Machine to anyone who does not want to deal with a lot of headaches. I am not sure if it works well if it is plugged in via the ethernet cable, but as for the wireless backup, it is a complete waste of time, money, and energy. I am actually going to take it back to Bestbuy tomorrow and get an external drive that I can plug into my iMac.
